We have created an overview of courses, certificates and certifications that are normally required for various fields of study, and how you can get started.
Please note that these are basic competency requirements, and that some operators may require experience that goes beyond the basics, depending on the position and area of work.
All positions in TS Group require a relevant certificate. This shows that you have the professional weight and practical understanding needed to work offshore. A certificate is often the entry ticket, and gives employers confidence that you can perform the work in line with the industry's requirements for quality and safety.
Many who work on platforms today started their careers at TS Group in a position onshore, for example at processing plants such as Mongstad, Nyhamna, Herøya or Melkøya, or at one of the many shipyards along the Norwegian coast. Experience from such onshore facilities provides valuable insight into operations, technical systems and HSE routines that are also used offshore.
To work offshore, you must have a valid medical certificate issued by an approved petroleum doctor. In addition, you must have completed basic safety and emergency preparedness training (GSK).
Courses and certifications taken outside the countries covered by the North Sea Agreement (Norway, Great Britain, Denmark and the Netherlands) must be approved by the operating company and are not automatically valid.
Within crane, deck and logistics you will find many of the key roles that keep offshore operations running. Here, great emphasis is placed on competence, safety and collaboration, and skilled workers with the right training are essential for safe and efficient operations.

As a process engineer, you are responsible for monitoring and managing production from crude oil and gas to finished products. You monitor process plants, regulate pressure and temperature, and ensure that operations run stably and efficiently. The role requires technical understanding, accuracy, and the ability to make good decisions in a complex production environment.
Professionals in this area must have several basic courses to be eligible for placement offshore.

Mechanical trades involve assembling, repairing and maintaining equipment that is critical to operations. The work requires solid technical knowledge and the ability to solve practical challenges where collaboration and precision are key.

Electricians and automation engineers are responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical systems. The work ranges from new installations to system upgrades and preparation of technical documentation, to name a few.

A good job application makes it easier for us to assess your background and motivation. Here are some simple tips on how to structure your application and CV to make the best possible impression.
If you are applying for a job offshore, it pays to read the job posting carefully. Tailor your application and CV so that it is clear why you are a good fit for this particular position. Make it visible if you have a trade certificate or experience from industry, construction, ships, mechanical work or technical subjects. This shows that you are familiar with structure, safety and responsibility, which are important qualities in offshore work.
Working offshore requires security, cooperation and reliability. You do not need to have worked on a platform before, but you should show that you enjoy responsibility, follow procedures and work well in a team. Feel free to tell us how you have handled demanding work situations on land. This says a lot about how you will function offshore.
Experience from industry, workshops, construction, ships or other practical work counts positively when applying for an offshore job. Briefly describe what you did, what you learned and how it can be used in the oil and gas industry. This gives us a clear picture of how you can fit into TS Group's offshore and onshore projects.
To work offshore in Norway you must have certain courses and certifications. List what you already have, for example GSK, FSE, EX, first aid or fall protection. A good job application for an offshore position is clear, honest and easy to read. One page is enough. Tell us who you are, why you want to work offshore, and what you can contribute. Use bullet points and short paragraphs, and avoid standard phrases, it gives us a much clearer and better impression of who you are.

All of our courses are designed in line with industry and regulatory requirements, and give you good prerequisites to be able to work offshore. The courses give you increased expertise to be able to work both on platforms, onshore facilities or other parts of the industry.
