TS Academy launches EX courses in Bryne, Bergen and Porsgrunn

Yellow sign indicating that there are explosive materials in an area

TS Academy strengthens its focus on explosion protection and, in collaboration with Ex Tek , launches the courses Ex Basics , Ex Maintenance , as well as an e-learning course for repetition and updating. The courses are offered at new locations in Bryne, Bergen and Porsgrunn.

All courses are developed in line with current industry and regulatory requirements and provide participants with documented competence to work safely and effectively in explosive areas.

The initiative establishes a more accessible course offering for the industry, close to key professional environments within oil and gas, process and energy. The background is clear. The need for qualified personnel who can work safely in Ex areas is increasing. The regulations are comprehensive, and the requirements for documented competence are clear.

– Our goal, as with all our courses, is for participants to not only learn the regulations, but to understand how they are applied in real-world work operations. Together with Ex Tek, we combine solid professional expertise with operational experience from the industry, says Vicky Margetts, EVP Academy at TS Group.

Ex Basics that prevent risk

Ex Basics provides a structured introduction to the requirements for installation, marking and final inspection of equipment in hazardous areas. The course is designed in accordance with NFEA EX KOMP 2021 and is based on key standards such as IEC 60079 and IEC 61892, as well as relevant ATEX directives and Norwegian regulatory requirements.

Participants gain insight into fire and explosion theory, area classification, gas groups, temperature classes and protection methods, and how these are related in practice. The ambition is clear. After completing the course, participants should be more confident in the assessments they make in their daily work.

The course is aimed at personnel within electrical and automation who work with installation, inspection or selection of equipment in Ex areas. It is recommended that the competence be evaluated every five years.

Ex Maintenance from theory to safe practice

For those who have already completed the basic course, Ex Maintenance is offered as classroom instruction. The focus is on inspection, maintenance and work on existing Ex installations.

Participants learn how to perform maintenance in an explosive environment, what can be done in-house and when equipment must be sent to an authorized workshop. The training is closely linked to actual work tasks and provides the competence to make correct assessments both before, during and after the work.

Refresher and refresher courses are also offered to ensure that competence is maintained in line with current regulations. Here too, updating is recommended every five years.

Closer to the industry both geographically and professionally

By establishing the courses in Bryne, Bergen and Porsgrunn, TS Academy expands its course portfolio and meets the need for Ex courses where the industry operates. For companies, this means less travel burden, easier planning and a lower threshold for prioritizing competency development.

Together with Ex Tek, we are therefore pleased to represent a new and more accessible opportunity within these courses - and welcome everyone to the course.
