Basic Safety Course revision with 5 hours of e-learning
The training should provide competence in:
- Risk understanding and barriers
- First aid
- Helicopter evacuation
- Fire protection
- Evacuation means
- Use of a life jacket at sea
After completing the training, the participant should be able to:
- Describe risk factors and identify barriers
- Contribute to increased safety on offshore installations
- Perform life-saving first aid
- Evacuate by helicopter
- Prevent fires from occurring and extinguish minor fires
- Evacuating from offshore installations in life rafts and life preservers
- Using a life jacket at sea
Shoulder width measurement is included in the course and it will be stated on the course certificate whether the shoulder width is "Normal" or "XBR".
"XBR" indicates that people should sit in predefined places in the helicopter.
The individual operator is responsible for ensuring that shoulder measurements are added to DaWinci.
Shoulder measurement is valid for 4 years and is renewed at the same time as a refresher course at GSK.

Shoulder measurement is carried out standing in front of a wall-mounted poster, or using a separate measuring device.
The duration of the course corresponds to 2 course days, where the first day is e-learning and can be completed whenever the participant wishes, but prior to the practical day.
- 1 course day is 8 hours with a minimum of 6 hours of effective training
- 1 hour is 60 minutes
- When using e-learning: 1st course day: e-learning with a minimum time commitment of 5 hours. 2nd course day: minimum 7 hours of practical training
Prerequisites
The following courses satisfy the prerequisite requirements for participation in GSK Rep with e-learning:
- Basic safety course
- STCW basic safety training (STCW AVI/1) approved by national maritime authority
- OPITO 5700 – Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with Emergency Breathing System (EBS)
- OPITO 5858 – Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET) with Emergency Breathing System (EBS).
Certified maritime personnel who have completed HUET at Offshore Norway's qualified course provider within the last 60 months do not need to complete Subject 3.0 Helicopter Evacuation.
Target group
Anyone who will be staying on installations on the Norwegian continental shelf. The refresher course can be completed up to 8 years after the previous course, but you cannot travel offshore if the course is more than four years old.
